Congresswoman Nita Lowey was endorsed by the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) for her re-election campaign.
“I am honored to have the support of such a critical group in preserving our environment,” said Lowey. “When I first campaigned for Congress, I made a promise to get federal support to clean up the Long Island Sound. I founded the Sound Caucus, which has advanced legislation to clean up the Sound, and the Hudson River Caucus to protect these vital waterways. In addition, I strongly support the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts as well as essential federal efforts to clean up the Gulf oil spill, address global climate change, and achieve energy independence through clean alternatives that will not harm our environment.”
Lowey successfully passed legislation to create the Long Island Sound Office and has secured millions in federal assistance to clean up and protect this economic engine for our region. She and her colleagues in the Hudson River Caucus secured the first federal commitment for the Hudson Valley Greenway and continue working to ensure this local treasure continues to provide the historic, recreational and economic benefits it does today.
“I will continue working in Congress and with local leaders to ensure our environment is healthy and safe for generations to come. We must work hard to ensure that voters understand the choice we face this November; we cannot allow our opponents to undo our progress on the path to cleaner energy that protects our environment , advances our security, and lowers energy costs .”
