While the Great Recession may be over and the economy is slowly recovering, millions of Americans are still struggling to make ends meet. Nita supports a comprehensive, fiscally responsible strategy for job creation and economic growth. We must end wasteful spending while making critical investments in education, research, and infrastructure to grow our economy. She has stood against irresponsible legislation that would wipe out millions of jobs and stall the national recovery.
Job Creation & Workplace Fairness: Nita has fought successfully for tax credits that help small businesses expand and bring on new workers and supports incentives for businesses and government contractors to hire veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. She voted to increase the Federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, which would give millions of American workers a raise and increase consumer spending that boosts our economy. Nita is a vocal co-sponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act to eradicate the wage gap between women and men and ensure equal pay for equal work.
Tax Relief: Nita backed legislation that provided a tax cut to 95% of American workers. She would permanently exempt 99.8% of estates from any federal tax obligation. And Nita voted to cut taxes for small businesses to help entrepreneurs succeed and bring on new employees.
Fiscal Responsibility: Nita voted for the largest annual federal spending cut in history, and she strongly supports pay-as-you-go budget rules to restore fiscal sanity in Washington and reduce the federal budget deficit. Nita took an active role in reaching the budget deal that prevented a second irresponsible government shutdown in early 2014 and restored investments in infrastructure investments, local schools, federal research, education, and much more to help bolster economic growth. Nita opposes draconian budget proposals that would end Medicare as we know it, eliminate critical funding for education and the environment, and provide huge tax breaks to Big Oil and companies that ship jobs overseas.
Innovation: Nita understands that innovation is the key to American competitiveness and long-term growth. That’s why she has supported targeted investments in clean energy, transportation and technology. And that’s why she is fighting against dangerous Republican proposals to defund vital infrastructure.
Responsible Entitlement Reform: Nita is determined to extend the promise of Social Security and Medicare to future generations, by placing these essential programs on a stable, long-term financial footing through common sense reform, while honoring our commitment to today’s seniors. She stands against reckless, unbalanced cuts that would harm seniors, and imperil the health and security of today’s youngsters and workers.
Immigration: Nita supports commonsense comprehensive immigration reform legislation that would fix our broken immigration system while boosting the economy and reducing the deficit by $900 billion over two decades.
