Nita Lowey courts Rockland voters
NEW CITY — Rep. Nita Lowey spent parts of the past three days touring Rockland County, unofficially beginning her campaign against Republican rival Joseph Carvin in the newly revamped 17th Congressional District.
The district now includes all of Rockland and much of central and northern Westchester County, made up of some 700,000 residents.
“I have to introduce myself to 350,000 new people,” Lowey said Monday during a break at Clarkstown Town Hall in New City.
“I have to get out there to talk to people, visit with people and try and understand every part of the district,” she said.

Mayor, Village of Piermont
Nita is a powerhouse of energy and an outstanding advocate for the 17th Congressional District. When Hurricane Sandy hit, and crippled the Village of Piermont - while she had yet to be seated as our representative - Nita was here within two days of the storm, asking if there was anything we needed. Nita continues to work tirelessly to ensure that FEMA is responsive to our continuing restoration needs and we get the relief we’re deserved.
