Lowey: “There’s Nothing Heroic About
Hiking Seniors’ Health Care Costs”
Congresswoman Nita Lowey issued the following statement regarding today’s Kaiser Family Foundation study showing that under a Medicare plan similar to Paul Ryan’s, 59 percent of Medicare beneficiaries would have higher out-of-pocket costs, unless they switched from traditional Medicare to a lower-cost plan. In New York, it would cost seniors more than $100 extra every month to maintain traditional Medicare coverage.
“Another day, another study showing that New York senior citizens would be worse-off and have higher out-of-pocket costs under a privatized Medicare system similar to Paul Ryan’s proposal.
“Joe Carvin called Paul Ryan his “hero.” There is nothing heroic about breaking promises to senior citizens and forcing them to pay more for the health care benefits they have earned. If re-elected, I will continue to stand up for senior citizens in Westchester and Rockland Counties.”
Carvin: “Paul Ryan is my hero. I’m running because Paul Ryan needs my help. Paul Ryan is my hero.” [Capital Tonight, http://www.capitaltonight.com/2012/03/carvin-discusses-us-senate-run/ 3/1/2012]

Supervisor, Town of Orangetown
Over the past two years it has been a pleasure to work with Nita. She has been truly accessible and responsive to the needs of Orangetown residents and has been a frequent presence at many events in our community. I especially appreciate her work to help our riverfront communities deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
